Your Step-by-Step Guide to NeoGraft Hair Transplantation
Is your hair thinning? Having a beautiful head of hair is a sign of vitality in men and a part of women’s sensual allure. It’s distressing to see masses of hair come out on your hairbrush.
In the past, there weren’t good answers for hair loss. Hair transplantation was painful and messy. Wigs still look fake and aren’t the solution you’re looking for.
Modern technology has revolutionized hair transplant technology in recent years. Dr. Robert Mirabile and Dr. Vivian Hsu, board-certified plastic surgeons with Best Impression Med Spa, are pleased to offer advanced NeoGraft technology® hair transplants to give you optimal results and a fuller head of hair.
Step 1: Preparation for your hair transplant
We develop a plan for your transplant and show you the donor areas and recipient sites so you know what to expect. Surgery only takes part of one day for most patients. It depends on the number of grafts needed for your hair needs.
Since you’ll have local anesthesia, you’ll be able to drive home, but many patients prefer to have a family member or friend take them home.
Step 2: Gaining donor hair
You’ll lie comfortably on your stomach for the procedure so that we have full access to the donor site. If you need a break, just let us know.
In the past, hair transplants involved removing strips of hair and scalp. The process was painful, invasive, and messy. During a NeoGraft hair transplant, your doctor and team use follicular unit extraction (FUE), which removes every hair follicle graft unit separately. Each extraction leaves only a microscopic scar that’s one millimeter or smaller in size, so you won’t have large, visible scars after your hair transplant.
Step 3: Marking recipient sites
Next, your doctor and team prepare the recipient sites based on the hair transplantation plan developed for your needs. The area is marked and numbed to receive small slits about one millimeter in size, which will take the donor grafts.
You review the hair transplant design, including the site of your new hairline. Once you agree with the plan, you’re ready for graft placement.
Step 4: Setting the grafts in place
Your doctor uses the NeoGraft system to deliver tiny punctures into which the grafts are placed. The grafts are bathed in a special solution that keeps them healthy during the transplant process.
Step 5: Boosting results with PRP injections
Your blood carries important nutrients to cells all over your body. It contains special cells called platelets that contain ingredients that trigger hair regrowth. We use platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections using your own blood to boost hair restoration results.
We draw a sample of blood from your arm and use a machine called a centrifuge to separate the platelets from the other ingredients in your blood. The mass contains 5-10 times more platelets than normal. Your doctor then injects the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) solution into your scalp at your treatment site.
Step 6: Recovery after your hair transplant
We provide post-procedure instructions so you know how to care for your scalp and newly transplanted hair. Initial recovery usually lasts 7-10 days. Scabs form and fall off where we’ve extracted donor hair and placed recipient hair.
We provide detailed guidance on washing your hair, resuming physical activity, sun exposure, wearing hats, sleeping positions, and more. If you have any unique requirements, your provider will cover them with you.
Step 7: Hair growth after transplantation
Your hair grows in stages, and the transplanted follicles follow your natural growth patterns. Some transplanted hair may fall out before the regrowth begins, but this is a normal part of the hair growth cycle; don’t worry.
The growth cycle begins about three to four months after your procedure, and by six months, you'll see significant hair regrowth. You’ll achieve full results within 12 months. We see you at regular intervals to monitor your progress.
