Upper vs. Lower Blepharoplasty: Which Type of Eyelid Surgery Is Right for Me?

Upper vs. Lower Blepharoplasty: Which Type of Eyelid Surgery Is Right for Me?

Do dark circles under your eyes or baggy eyelids make you appear older than you are? What about your upper eyelids? If they’re sagging, they can impede your vision. Learn about eyelid surgery called blepharoplasty

Our board-certified plastic surgeons with Best Impression Med Spa can perform eyelid surgery called blepharoplasty to correct your eyelid issues. They examine your eyes, review your medical history, and let you know whether you need the procedure on your upper or lower lids or both to correct cosmetic and functional problems.

Upper eyelid surgery

Your concern may be only your upper eyelids. Do you have thick, drooping folds of skin that make you look tired and sleepy? As you get older, the skin around your eyes loses both its structure and its firmness, which can cause fatty deposits to accumulate. Your skin may also wrinkle and bunch.

During an upper blepharoplasty, your doctor makes tiny incisions on the folds on your upper eyelids. This way, there won’t be any visible scarring. Your surgeon eliminates excess skin that can make you look angry or fatigued.

If your eyelids were drooping so much that your vision was impaired, you’ll have fully restored vision after the blepharoplasty. Your eyelids are going to look normal again after the procedure, giving you a refreshed appearance.

Sometimes it’s necessary to move muscle tissue. Your doctor lifts and reattaches the skin, eliminating the fatty creases on your eyelids. If you find saggy upper lids frustrating, talk to Dr. Brooks about whether upper eyelid surgery is the best choice for you.

Lower eyelid surgery

If you’re bothered by cosmetic and genetic issues such as dark circles, puffy bags, or fine lines under and around your eyes, our caring staff can perform a lower eyelid blepharoplasty. As you age, the skin under your eyes can become thin, loose, saggy, and/or wrinkled. The skin under your eyes may have a hollow appearance.

Our plastic surgeons can correct all these issues with a tiny incision below your lower lashes where it won’t be visible. They remove excess fat, skin, and muscle, if needed. Sometimes they use the excess fat to create more volume where it’s missing. Other times, patients elect to have a small fat transfer to help restore lost volume and help your under-eye area blend with your cheeks. The incision won’t be visible once you heal.

Upper and lower blepharoplasty

Your doctor may recommend both an upper and lower blepharoplasty if both sets of eyelids present problems. With only one surgery, you receive top-quality aesthetic results.

If your vision is impaired by drooping eyelids or you’re concerned about dark circles under your eyes, puffy skin, or fine lines, call Best Impressions Med Spa, or book an appointment online today. This minor procedure can provide a refreshed appearance that takes years off your appearance.
