Plumper Lips With Dermal Fillers: All Your Questions Answered

Plumper Lips With Dermal Fillers: All Your Questions Answered

While lip liner and plumping gloss can help define and enhance your lips a little bit, they can’t give you dramatic results and they don’t last longer than a few hours, either.

That’s what leads many people to dermal fillers. These fillers give you an impressive yet natural-looking lip enhancement that lasts a long time.

Dermal fillers are second only to Botox® among nonsurgical cosmetic procedures. In fact, over a recent four-year period, dermal filler use rose by a whopping 70%.

At Best Impression Med Spa, lip enhancement is one of the most common ways we use dermal fillers to help our patients look their best.

Our elite physicians, Dr. Robert Mirabile and Dr. Vivian Hsu, personally trained our talented nurse injectors. We have more than a decade of experience in creating perfectly plump pouts, personalized for the individual patient.

Summer is one of the most popular times to get lip fillers, so we decided that July was the perfect time to cover our most common lip filler questions.

What are lip fillers made of?

The active ingredient in lip fillers (and in fact most dermal fillers) is hyaluronic acid (HA). This substance, which occurs naturally in your body, helps add volume and definition to your lips. It binds to water — in fact it can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water.

So with only a small amount of HA gel, you can see dramatic changes in your lips, instantly. HA is an ideal ingredient for lip fillers because your body accepts it as its own natural substance. No worries about allergies or filler rejection.

How long do lip fillers last?

It depends. The type of filler and your body chemistry can affect filler longevity, so there’s some variation among patients, but, in general, lip fillers usually last 12-18 months

We take the time to help you choose the ideal lip filler based on your goals, including your wishes for filler longevity. We also give you tips to extend the life of your dermal fillers.

Why do cheek fillers last longer than lip fillers?

In other parts of the face, like the cheeks, certain fillers can last as long as 24 months. But you move your lips much more than your cheeks, so that’s why fillers don't last as long in your lips.

In addition, cheek fillers have a bigger HA molecule size. Larger HA molecules work well in the cheeks, because they’re so firm. But with your lips, you need a smaller HA molecule size because, naturally, you want your lips to look and feel kissably soft.

Will people be able to tell I have dermal fillers?

When injected correctly and tailored for your specific facial anatomy, fillers aren’t visible to the naked eye. We evaluate your face, assess the way your face moves, and plan your lip treatment with you.

At Best Impression Med Spa, we’re widely known for our impressive yet natural-looking lip filler results. We understand you want to avoid the dreaded duck lips look. Our goal is to make it look like you were born with the beautifully shaped, plump lips of your dreams.
