How to Make the Veins in Your Legs Disappear
According to research, approximately 20% of adults have large, bulging, blue varicose veins in their calves and inner legs. If your gnarled, knotty veins embarrass you and keep you from wearing clothes that show your legs, turn to Robert Mirabile, MD and Vivian Hsu, MD and our team here at Best Impression Med Spa.
At our state-of-the-art facility in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, we offer two types of treatments to make the veins in your legs disappear. We’ll describe those procedures in detail, after we explain more about varicose veins and outline the symptoms.
What are varicose veins?
Varicose veins develop when valves in your veins malfunction and allow blood to flow backward and pool in the vein. In most cases, varicose veins are only an aesthetic concern; but for some people, they cause chronic discomfort. If you’re one of those people, some of the concerning symptoms are:
- Burning
- Heaviness
- Fatigue
- Pain
- Throbbing
- Skin discoloration
- Itching
How to make your leg veins disappear
To relieve some of the discomfort of varicose veins, we recommend some at-home remedies like avoiding excessive standing or sitting, elevating your legs when you sit, losing weight, and not crossing your legs. However, if you want to smooth your legs and get rid of varicose veins completely, we offer two proven procedures.
Laser therapy
Using a concentrated beam of light, your doctor can heat up and strategically damage your diseased vein so that it forms scar tissue to close the vein. Your blood finds new pathways in other veins and the varicose vein dies and disappears over several months.
Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is the go-to treatment for varicose veins. It’s popular because it’s non-surgical and has a high success rate. During the procedure, your doctor injects an approved chemical into your varicose vein that causes it to collapse. Your blood reroutes to nearby veins and your body absorbs the collapsed varicose vein over time. Once the vein disappears, the pain and other side effects dissipate as well.
Both procedures only take between 15 minutes to an hour. Depending on the position and severity of your problem veins, you may need several sessions. Your doctor meets with you to customize a treatment plan, so you’ll know exactly what to expect. Typically, you’ll need a day or so to rest after the treatment, and shortly thereafter you can return to all your regular activities.
