How NeoGraft® Can Restore Your Hair
Healthy hair falls out regularly but is also replaced regularly. However, if the number of hairs lost exceed the hairs replaced, you start to notice the difference.
Changes in your hormones that come with age, stress, chronic health conditions, and even medications can negatively impact hair growth. However, most hair loss cases can be attributed to genetic factors, aging, or family history.
Approximately 50 million men and 30 million women in the United States suffer from hereditary hair loss. Male-pattern baldness (i.e., a bald spot or a receding hairline) can begin as early as puberty. Female-pattern baldness usually takes the form of thinning hair, but it can also manifest in a receding hairline.
You don’t have to buy an expensive wig or a series of hats to hide your hair loss. At Best Impression Med Spa in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, Robert Mirabile, MD, and Vivan Hsu, MD offer NeoGraft® hair restoration to both women and men.
NeoGraft is an automated hair transplant system that uses your own healthy, active hair follicles to promote optimal regrowth. NeoGraft restores a fuller head of hair safely, effectively, and naturally. Here’s what you need to know.
More advanced than a conventional transplant
Conventional hair transplants rely on a process called “strip harvesting.” Your doctor surgically removes a section of skin with good hair growth from the back of your scalp. They then transplant that graft to a balding or thinning area.
Strip harvesting can create a more complete head of hair. However, it also leaves a permanent linear scar where the scalp’s two edges were joined in the donor area.
A visible scalp scar is a less than ideal outcome. For people with shorter hairstyles, the scar can be a significant source of embarrassment.
In contrast, NeoGraft is scar-free. Your doctor still uses the hair-rich area of the scalp at the back of your head. But minimally invasive NeoGraft relies on an advanced harvesting technique known as follicular unit extraction (FUE). With FUE, your doctor gently removes and collects individual hair follicles one by one, without any incisions.
The donor area should heal completely within a week. You can then expect to experience normal hair regrowth there that’s just as robust as before.
In the treatment area, the healthy transplanted hair follicle micro-grafts go through a short period of rest. After the transplanted follicles take root, their next growth phase begins. Soon, you have a fuller head of hair that feels just as natural as it looks.
Minimally invasive, natural results
NeoGraft is the first FDA-cleared hair transplant system. It’s a minimally invasive procedure that combines precision physician craftsmanship with advanced FUE technology to deliver remarkably natural-looking results.
Of course, we first apply a local anesthetic to ensure your comfort. The NeoGraft procedure uses controlled pneumatic pressure to slide each graft out smoothly. Therefore, your doctor is much less likely to pull, twist, or otherwise damage the tender follicles during the retrieval process.
After we collect the donor follicles, we create properly angled and oriented recipient sites in the treatment area. We then systematically implant each donor graft, one at a time. Having a quick turnaround between collection and implantation helps your grafts stay more robust.
New hair grows within months
About 2-3 weeks after your NeoGraft, your transplanted hair follicles go through a normal shedding cycle to make way for new growth. Then, within three to four months of the procedure, you see new hair growth that — much like your natural hair — continues to grow as time goes on.
NeoGraft is faster and more precise than traditional hair transplant surgery. And because it doesn’t involve incisions, scalp transplantation, or stitches, you’ll also heal faster, have less post-procedural downtime, and don’t have to worry about scars.
