Choose Kybella and Say Goodbye to Your Double Chin

Choose Kybella and Say Goodbye to Your Double Chin

Plump cheeks and chins may have made women and men swoon with envy or desire in the 17th century, back in the days of painter Peter Paul Rubens. In 2024, though, few women and men feel that their double chins advertise their wealth and desirability.

Double chins sometimes come from weight gain. At other times, they’re just a trick of genetics. And in one of the most frustrating types of double chins, they’re a result of aging: Sagging skin can’t support the lower face.

Whatever the cause of your double chin, you’d probably prefer to live without it. Although you know that you could undergo a lower facelift or neck lift, or even fairly simple liposuction to banish the fat for good, you’d rather not be so invasive.

You’re not alone. Thanks to your desires, and the desires of countless other women and men, another method of eliminating double chins without blades or vacuums is available. Kybella® is an FDA-approved injectable therapy that melts away fat and tightens skin without scalpels or cannulas.

Dr. Robert Mirabile, Dr. Vivian Hsu, and the rest of our team understand that not everybody wants surgery or liposuction. That’s why we offer Kybella as a submental fat treatment at Best Impression Medical Spa and Laser Center in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania.

Would you like to look in the mirror and see one chin, not two? Here’s how Kybella can help.

How does Kybella work?

Kybella relies on a synthetic version of a molecule called deoxycholic acid to melt away fat. Your body produces deoxycholic acid to help break down and absorb dietary fat. As an active ingredient in Kybella, it destroys fat cells in the areas where it’s injected.

Over a series of treatments, Kybella reduces the volume of submental fat under your chin.

Unlike liposuction, Kybella works gradually, so you can subtly improve the look of your jawline. Instead of looking like you’ve undergone a procedure, it simply seems that you’ve slowly and naturally eliminated your double chin.

The slow meltdown of fat cells has another benefit. Your skin has time to adjust to the loss in volume. As your fat melts and reduces the volume in your chin, your skin slightly tightens, too, to subtly recontour your jawline.

What’s the process for Kybella?

When you come in for your treatment, we clean and numb the area under your chin. We then choose a template that matches your chin’s shape. Using the template, we determine the best points for your injections.

You receive multiple injections during each treatment. Depending on your goals, you may need up to six treatment sessions, spaced four weeks apart.

During that month, your body eliminates the destroyed fat cells. Your skin has time to heal, and you have time to evaluate your results to decide whether to proceed to the next treatment.

Most women and men are satisfied with the changes in their chin area after 2-4 treatments. About 59% go on to have a full series of six treatments to fully achieve their goals. Am I a candidate for Kybella injections?

As with any procedure at our clinic, your experience starts with a thorough evaluation to be sure you’re a good candidate and would benefit from the treatment. The evaluation includes a physical exam, medical history review, and a thorough discussion of your goals and expectations for treatment.

After the evaluation, we develop a treatment strategy customized to fit your needs. If you’re in overall good health and have medium-to-large amounts of submental fat, you have a good chance of being an excellent candidate for Kybella injections.

However, you must be realistic about your desires, too. Although Kybella slightly tightens skin as the fat dissolves, it can’t lift severely sagging skin. It also has no uplifting effect on muscles.

Therefore, if you have extreme laxity around the jowls, chin, and neck, you may want to mix Kybella with lasers and other therapy to get you closer to your goal.

Before proceeding with treatment, we discuss your options in detail. We’re committed to finding a strategy that helps you achieve your desires while also matching your circumstances and needs.

Does Kybella hurt?

As mentioned, we use a numbing cream on the treatment area to minimize discomfort. We can also choose a formulation that contains lidocaine if you have a low pain threshold or fear of injections. Lidocaine is a local anesthetic that reduces discomfort.
